Civil Rights Act NOT in action

How the Civil Right act of 1964 is being violated in 2013!

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 was put into place by President Lyndon Johnson on July 2, 1964, the purpose of this act was to prohibit discrimination in public places, provided for the integration of schools and other public facilities, and made employment discrimination illegal. The act allowed the Justice Department to prosecute individuals who violated people’s civil rights and outlawed discrimination in employment on account of race, color, sex, or national origin. Now is this really being put into practice now in day?
Are people really being treated equally, regardless of sex, color, race or national origin?
Today, like in the 1960's, people are pointed at because of their color, sex or national origin. This has become a great conflict in our nation, the minority that is pointed at and mistreated today is not the African American it is our Hispanic society. On April of 2010, the state of Arizona caused great debate with the SB 1070 (immigration law). This law was created to "protect" Arizona citizens from illegal immigrants, granting the police officers the right to stop people who appear or sound illegal (Latin). In fact the Civil Rights of 1964 states that “...Discrimination or segregation by an establishment is supported by State action within the meaning of this title if such discrimination or segregation is carried on under color of any custom or usage required or enforced by officials of the State or political subdivision.." Under the provisions of the newly approved portion of SB 1070, police officers are obligated to make a reasonable effort to confirm the immigration status of people they stop, detain or arrest if they suspect a person is here unlawfully. This law is in clear violation of the Civil Right Act because it is pointed directly to a minority the Hispanics. The question is How does an "illegal" person look or sound?

AFRICAN AMERICAN PROTESTING FOR THERE RIGHTS IN THE 1960'S:

HISPANICS PROTESTING FOR THERE RIGHTS 2010:

Do we really want to repeat history?

Is this really what America is about?

  2. I dont agree that the minority that is pointed at and mistreated today is not the African American it is our Hispanic society . In certain parts of the world hispanics are treated more harshly than african americans. I dont agree that the U.S is one of those parts of the world aside from harsh immigration laws. What other harsh treatment do you think hispanics recieve besides immigration laws?

  3. You have shed light on a very important contemporary issue. Indeed, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 was implemented to ensure that humans would not be mistreated on the basis of color, sex, creed, religion, etc. According to your statements, this act has definitely been violated in Arizona. Question: Have you found evidence that proves that other persons, of different races, aren't being fairly stopped and required to show citizenship papers in Arizona?

  4. Hispanics are not only mistreated by immigration law, because not all Hispanics are illegal. Today our Hispanic society is not treated equally by the simple fact of being Hispanic; we are treated unfairly because we look different and speak Spanish. With respect to the Hispanics that are not here legally they are mistreated not only by immigration laws but by the people who employ them, they work harsh shifts and are paid less then minimum wage, employed by “AMERICANS” who know there legal statues and wish to take advantage of there need.

  5. Freedom of speech is one of our amendments, although people are being arrested for protesting in societies. I strongly believe that the government thinks they can do whatever they please and think that just because a rule is written on a paper that it not entirely important. Do you believe that if the rules back then were not established until today, and were fresh, that they would be followed better?

    1. I think that if the laws, acts, amendments, etc. we’re rewritten they would be applied better, because times change.

  6. Unfortunately not only Hispanics are stopped and asked for their documents, SB 1070 represents a grave threat to the civil liberties of citizens and non-citizens alike.

  7. In the United States our non-citizens are not only Hispanics we have many people of different ethnic groups, but I feel this law may be pointed more to Latin’s. Gov. Jan Brewer addresses SB 1070 “we cannot forget that the federal Gov. has failed the American people regarding immigration policy, has failed to protect its citizens, has failed to preserve the rule of law and has failed to secure our borders creating issues we now face regarding Illegal immigration…” there for speaking about the Mexican borders .

  8. I think that both blacks(males) all all hispanics got it bad. Is it fair? No but what can we do to changeit, because the civil rights act is not cutting it. I believe thats its up to the community to change the way society is... WE HAVE MORE CONTROL THEN THE PEOPLE THAT ARE IN OFFICE... if you don't know... now you know... Make a difference :)
